why is the clavicle xrayed in the AP position instead of the PA position

the clavicle is typically imaged from front to back. ideally if the bone is closer to the receptor, the image has more detail and less radiation is nessesary. So why isnt the clavicle positioning done PA so the actual bone is close to the receptor?
