I'd recommend getting this book- How to Decorate a Cake on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/How-Decorate-Cake-ebook/dp/B006WEVPKM -It's perefect for beginners and helped me get started. :-)

To decorate a cake there are several steps before baking and decorating the cake.

Some of them is theme of the party, color, flavor and filling of the cake, type of icing buttercream, fondant and/or whipping cream.

Once you decide all this then you need to design the type of the cake decoration.

For example: type of flowers, pictures, etc.

This is the first lesson.
